The City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks; Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Division seeks to fill part-time Maintenance Crew Supervisor - Seasonal positions. The Maintenance Crew Supervisor will work under the Seasonal Maintenance Director and his/her staff. Duties will be to participate, supervise, plan, manage and implement park maintenance programs/assignments as assigned with small maintenance crews of seasonal employees (youth) in the City of Worcester. The work involves manual labor and the performance of routine maintenance operations including, but not limited to; operating small machine equipment (lawn mowers, trimmers etc.), performing green space maintenance, assisting in event operations, and general facility outdoor maintenance, as well as other related work as assigned throughout the City of Worcester in a variety of public lands including Parks. Employees must be able to interact with patrons and carry themselves in a proper public manner. All work is performed outdoors, in all types of weather and in accordance with City of Worcester standard park maintenance practices and procedures.
The successful candidate will have working knowledge of routine park maintenance, equipment; the ability to perform and learn basic landscaping skills; the ability to understand and follow verbal instructions as well as accept supervision and guidance; possess excellent communication skills and basic administrative abilities; and the ability to establish effective working relations with other employees and the general public. The qualified candidate will also have the ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical exertion; the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to a height of 48 inches; the ability to perform manual labor & work in a variety of weather conditions; a valid MA Driver’s License; and the ability to successfully pass CORI/SORI check.
• High School Diploma or GED
• One (1) year of experience in general maintenance or landscaping in a supervisory capacity
• One (1) year of experience performing landscaping work
• Excellent communication skills and basic administrative abilities
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have a Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License
• Associate Degree in related field
• Related experience in the field of parks and facility maintenance
• First-Aid and CPR/AED Certified
STARTING SALARY: $13.75 per hour, seasonal, non-benefitted
