STAFF ASSISTANT III
ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE
CITY OF WORCESTER
The Staff Assistant III is responsible for managing the day to day processing and maintenance of various federal and state grants, with a focus on Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) grant transactions, including but not limited to; receiving funding, recording of fund transactions, preparing financial reports, reconciliations, documents and other data and performing other duties as required following established methods and procedures.
The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; will have demonstrated computer proficiency, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; and will have strong organization skills, with a focus on being detailed oriented. The qualified candidate will have knowledge of basic accounting/bookkeeping, grants administration, CFR 200 and other circulars governing federal grant funds; and knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations governing state grant funds; will have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state, local and federal agencies; ability to work independently, take initiative, and set priorities for meeting internal and external deadlines; ability to respond to changes in priorities based on workflow and deadlines; and will be familiar with financial reports, documentation generation, and substantiation.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
• Three (3) years of experience in accounting, auditing, or financial management; OR,
• Other combinations of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the above mentioned requirements
• Prior work experience with basic accounting/bookkeeping.
• Five (5) or more years of experience in accounting, auditing, or financial management
• Prior work experience in municipal accounting / finance
• Familiarity with grants administration.
SALARY: $24.45 - $32.60 hourly, full-time, excellent benefits package.
