The City of Worcester is proud to offer a competitive benefits package to supplement our employees' total compensation package. Some of these benefits include:

  • Flexible Spending Accounts - Employees have the benefit of saving monies for dependent care and/or medical care at an amount designated by the employee each year. These savings are deducted from the employees' pay prior to the calculation of taxes which results in additional savings for the employee.
  • Group Dental Insurance - There are two options to choose from, both of which are employee-pay-all plans.
  • Group Health Insurance - The City offers a choice of plans, and generous employer co-payments. Employees are eligible on their first day of employment.
  • Holidays - City employees enjoy 11 paid Holidays per year.
  • Optional Deferred Compensation Plan - An Employee, if they so choose, may also make tax-deferred contributions to this plan in order to provide themselves with additional retirement income.
  • Direct Deposit - The City offers payroll direct deposit services at the Worcester Credit Union and most local banking facilities.
  • Leaves of Absence - The City provides for a variety of leaves based on an employee's personal needs (family medical leave, personal leave, military leave, etc.).
  • Optional Life Insurance And Disability Plans - Employees may purchase supplemental universal life policies, term life policies, or a variety of short-term and/or long-term disability plans.
  • Paid Sick Leave - Employees accrue sick time which provides for potential illnesses.
  • Retirement Plan - After an employee has ten (10) years of creditable service with the City, s/he is guaranteed a vested retirement on or after attaining age 55.
  • Tuition Waiver - Worcester is a community affording its residents with a wealth of higher educational opportunities. The tuition waiver program allows employees (on a space-available basis) to register for job-related courses at one of ten participating colleges or universities, with the tuition being waived for such course.
  • Vacation Leave - Based on the employee's years of service, they are eligible for one to four weeks of vacation.
