During this phase, public safety and utility crews are responding to emergencies that have occurred. It is also during the response phase that the plans and procedures you have already established will be implemented. You may need to use your Emergency Supply Kit, or contact the emergency contact on your Family Communications Plan (64KB) and, if applicable, either Shelter in Place at your current residence or meet your loved ones at one of the designated meeting places. Although this phase is often the most chaotic, it is important to remain calm and rely on the emergency preparedness plans that you have created.
It is important to utilize media sources such as television or radio stations that can provide instruction and information to help keep you and your family safe during an emergency. The City of Worcester's Emergency Alert Notification System, ALERTWorcester, can also provide emergency notifications to help keep you safe.
It is important to stay off the roads and travel as little as possible during this phase to allow for public safety and utility crews complete access of the roads.
