Q:
When do I need a wiring permit?
 A:

Permits are required for all work performed by electricians, re-installation of meters removed by utilities and low voltage work such as data, non-utility phone, burglar and smoke alarms.

Q:
What are the costs of a wiring permit?
 A:

Fees vary, a copy of the fee schedule is included at the end of the web page.

Q:
What causes delays in processing my application for a wiring permit?
 A:

The most common causes of delay are lack of proof of liability insurance when required, lack of workman's compensation insurance when required, owing taxes or fees to the City, absence of the utility sequence number, no Fire Department fire alarm or oil burner forms.

Q:
When will my power be connected?
 A:

The utility will energize your service when notified by the Wiring Inspector. This notification is given only after all the proper permits are issued and an inspection shows that the installation complies with the code.
