In 2009, with the support of a Gateway Cities Plus grant from the Commonwealth's Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the City of Worcester commissioned a planning study led by The Cecil Group and Concord Square Development including an area stretching generally from LaGrange Street on the south, Main Street on the west, Franklin Street on the north and Francis McGrath Boulevard on the east. The Beacon-Federal Neighborhood Revitalization Plan and Project Workbook explores new residential, commercial and mixed-use opportunities in this strategic neighborhood located adjacent to Downtown Worcester. With input from community leadership, the plan identifies both public and private investment opportunities designed to bring new vitality and 18-hour activity to the area.
