The mission of the Business Assistance Division is to administer the economic development agenda and programs of the city; to promote, develop and expand investment and employment in the city; to secure the commitment of private capital into new or existing businesses in the city; and to administer and coordinate all federal, state and local programs involving the preparation of property for real estate development through the remediation or removal of contaminated buildings, soils or substances.

The priorities of the Business Assistance Division include:

  • Building the vitality of the downtown core and neighborhood centers through the creation of new business and retail opportunities.
  • Connecting entrepreneurs and property owners with public financing opportunities.
  • Improving connections between and among the city's many economic generators.
  • Marketing Worcester's assets to the region and beyond.

Office activities to support these priorities include: the promotion of enterprises through financial and site search assistance; outreach to key property owners to encourage and support revitalizing opportunities for land redevelopment; and engagement in planning initiatives to create new places for Worcester's growth and expansion.
