The City of Worcester is an economic engine for Central Massachusetts and the Commonwealth, actively responding to growth and development changes, as well as offering well-priced middle-class housing, economically and socially diverse neighborhoods and strong existing infrastructure including road and rail connections, and an urban public school system second to none.

Worcester has evolved from its days as a manufacturing giant into a leader in information technology, biotechnology, healthcare and medical research. This change has transformed Worcester's economy. With over thirteen colleges and universities within Greater Worcester, a young, educated workforce is a significant component of the community.

The City of Worcester's goal is to create an environment within Worcester conducive to both business and residential activity. The City of Worcester stands ready to assist in all elements of the development process, including identifying sites, securing the required local and state permitting and providing additional support through various business assistance tools. Our highly professional and motivated staff has access to financial and technical programs available through local, state and federal government, as well as through public/private collaborative efforts of the City and local banking institutions and other business assistance agencies.

Worcester is primed for new development, expanding the municipal tax base and creating new jobs.
