Councilor O'Brien

Joseph C. O'Brien

Joseph C. O'Brien, of 17 Oread Place, is serving his second two-year term as a Councilor-at-Large. He served as Mayor from 2010 through 2011. He also served three two-year terms as a member of the Worcester School Committee.

He is a graduate of Doherty Memorial High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Studies from Fordham University and later a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.

As Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Education, he and his committe members consider all matters pertaining to public education, the public libraries, arts, culture and higher education.

Councilor O'Brien has experience in all areas of Worcester community life, developing a broad range of valued relationships with people from all walks of life. He loves Worcester and he believes in the city's tremendous potential to provide wonderful jobs, first rate schools, safe neighborhoods and a vibrant and diverse cultural experience for all its residents.

The Councilor is married to Lisa Laurel Weinberg, a human rights attorney. The couple lives with their two children in a home they renovated themselves in the Main South section of Worcester.
