Annual Reports for Calendar Year 2001
These older reports are provided in response to requests for data from one or more past years to make it possible to do comparisons and consider longer-term changes.  Before making use of this new feature to assess changes it is important to be aware of some departmental policy and procedural changes which have occurred since 2001 which have resulted in some apparent changes in the data which may be misleading. A brief explanation should be examined before assessing changes over the period.

Number of Arrests Climbs by 8% over 2006
Worcester Police made 9,288 arrests during 2007, an increase of more than 6% the previous year.  After several years of decline, the number of juveniles arrested (under age 17) jumped from 497 in 2006 to 647 in 2007, a gain of 30%. The principal categories of charges behind this increase were property crimes, up 66%, assaults, up 32%, and disorderly conduct and trespassing, up 29%.  Among all age groups, the major increases were in arrests for property crimes (up 23.4%) and assault (up 18%). Also, arrests for liquor law violations rose by 42%, year-to-year, all ages, reflecting increased police concentration on the problem.
