    Mayor Joseph M. Petty and City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. announced tonight, following the City Council meeting, that the City of Worcester will host a Worcester Red Sox celebration in conjunction with community partners.

    The event will take place on the Worcester Common Oval on Monday, September 17 at 5 p.m. and is open to the general public with appearances by legends of the Boston Red Sox baseball club and players from the Pawtucket Red Sox. The event will be broadcast live on Charter TV3 (channel 193) and on the City of Worcester Government Channel (channel 192) as well as Unity Radio 102.9 FM.

    WHO: Worcester Red Sox Celebration with Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, Congressman Jim McGovern, Mayor Joseph M. Petty, City Councilor Candy Mero-Carlson, City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr., Pawtucket Red Sox Chairman Larry Lucchino and other special guests.

    WHERE: Worcester Common Oval, 455 Main Street, Worcester

    Immediately following the ceremony on the Worcester Common Oval, the Canal District Alliance will hold a Block Party from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with food, games and entertainment for the whole family as well as a fireworks display at 7:30 p.m.

    The Worcester Common Oval located behind City Hall serves as a public gathering place throughout the year. The Oval hosts the popular "Out to Lunch" summer concert series and farmer's market during June, July and August. The Oval also offers public skating in the Winter months with skate rentals, concessions and special events.
