Public Pianos to Fill Worcester with the Sound of Music

For Immediate Release: 8/19/2016 12:55 pm

Worcester, MA (August 19, 2016) - For two weeks, Worcester will be a more musical place.

Starting Friday, August 19, four public pianos will be placed outdoors at sites downtown, available for anyone to play. The public pianos program is sponsored by the City of Worcester with partnership from Massachusetts Pianocraft and C.C. Lowell Art Supply Co.

The pianos will be at:

  • The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts, 2 Southbridge Street
  • City Hall, 455 Main Street
  • 72 Shrewsbury Street
  • Peace Park, Corner of Pleasant Street and Winslow Street

The two-week event will kick off at 4:30 p.m. Friday, with a public concert at each location, featuring local musicians Dan Burke, Martin Gohary, Miles Flisher, and Brooks Milgate. City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr. will speak at the event at Peace Park.

“The arts play such a huge role in the vitality and quality of life of our city, and we’re looking for every way possible to fulfill our goal to Make Art Everywhere,” said City Manager Augustus. “I’m looking forward to our talented residents filling the streets with music for the next two weeks.”

Each piano was given a unique paint job by a local artist. The City thanks Kristian Rodriguez, Melvin Rivera, Hank Von Hellion, and John Vo for lending their talents to the project.
