Residents can learn about becoming a City of Worcester Firefighter at two open house sessions on Wednesday, January 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Both sessions will be held at the Worcester Fire Department Training Center at 141 Grove Street.
These programs, free and open to the public, will include detailed information about the application, hiring, and training process from the City’s Human Resources Department, the Civil Service Division of Boston, and the Worcester Fire Department.
Attendees will learn about Civil Service requirements including how to apply, the written exam, and physical ability test from representatives of the state’s Civil Service Division in Boston. The next Firefighter exam is scheduled for March 21.
Worcester Fire Department Command staff and firefighters will educate attendees on the hiring/selection process, training and their experiences as a firefighter. Human Resources personnel will also provide information on the benefits package for City employees including health insurance, pension and more.
