City Sponsored Construction Projects Suspended

City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. has announced that effective immediately, all City-sponsored construction projects will be suspended until at least Monday, May 4.

This decision, which takes the Commonwealth’s recommendations on construction a step further, is being made out of an abundance of caution in protecting the health and safety of Worcester and its residents by preventing the spread of COVID-19.

As announced earlier this week, construction at Polar Park and the Worcester Public Library will also be suspended until at least Monday, May 4.

All water, sewer and street work, in addition to all utility work, will continue uninterrupted. The City will constantly monitor circumstances and adjust the time period of the suspension as necessary. Essential work to secure sites for the suspension may continue at certain sites until early next week.

School projects:

• MSBA Accelerated Repair Program 2017 - Lincoln Street School, Thorndyke Road School, Elm Park Prep Academy
• MSBA Accelerated Repair Program 2018 – Challenge and Reach Academy
• MSBA South High Community School
• Pearl Elm Garage Renovation Project
• Canterbury Street School

Parks Department projects:

• South Worcester Community Building Roof
• Institute Park Walkway, Firefighters Memorial, and O’Connell Field
• WWI Memorial at Green Hill Park
• Hadwen Park Trail
• Crompton Park Basketball Court

Energy& Asset Management projects:

• All work at Union Station, including the WPD Substation, corridor upgrades, leak sealing and bathroom improvements
• Inverter and related upgrades/maintenance for several solar arrays including the landfill solar farm
