Worcester, MA (June 22, 2010) - The City of Worcester is pleased to announce our Annual Independence Day Celebration schedule for Friday, July 2, 2010 at Christoforo Colombo Park (East Park) on Shrewsbury Street. This year's celebration program, sponsored by Fallon Community Health Plan, begins at 7:00 PM. In the case of inclement weather, a rain date for this event is Saturday, July 3rd.

The schedule of events is as follows:

• 6:00 PM - Christoforo Colombo Park opens to the public, including the "Kid's Korner" with the Worcester Sharks, cultural organizations and many kid-friendly activities.
• 7:00 PM - Celebration program begins.
• 8:00 PM - Musical performance by the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra.
• 9:30 PM - Spectacular fireworks display.

"Helping the Worcester community celebrate America's independence is an important tradition for Fallon Community Health Plan," said Patrick Hughes, FCHP's President and CEO. "We're proud to once again sponsor what all of Central Massachusetts has come to know as an outstanding, family-fun event."

This year's fireworks display is coordinated by the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce and the City of Worcester. Other sponsors include Price Chopper, Polar Beverages, CSX, Telegram & Gazette, 96.1 WSRS, WTAG 580AM/94.9FM, Charter TV3 and Charter Communications. The Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra's appearance is part of the Bank of America Summer Concert Series.
