Vice Chairperson Councilor Haxhiaj read the item and recognized the Assistant Commissioner of Transportation and Mobility, who discussed the results obtained from the traffic evaluation on Sunderland Rd. and provided the recommendation to file, as the installation of rectangualar rapid-flashing beacon (RRFB) at the crosswalk will not have high efficacy due to pedestrian crossing patterns and other traffic calming measures are recommended to be applied.

Chairperson Councilor Colorio recognized Councilor Nguyen, who discussed the necessary conditions for the installation of RRFBs, as well as issues relative to pedestrian crossing at the Goddard School of Science and Technology with the Commissioner of Transportation and Mobility and the Assistant Commissioner of Transportation and Mobility.

Chairperson Councilor Colorio brought forth the following two (2) Chairman’s Orders: 1) Request City Manager request Commissioner of Transportation and Mobility install MUTCD-compliant Pedestrian in Crosswalk signage in the vicinity of Goddard School of Science & Technology, 14 Richards St.; and 2) Request City Manager request Commissioner of Transportation and Mobility coordinate with the Superintendent of the Public Schools to investigate ways to improve pedestrian safety and access during the arrival and dismissal activities at the Goddard School of Science & Technology.
