Street Light Petitions

1a.

Councilor Sean M. Rose request installation of a light post on the corner of St. Nicholas Ave. and Squantum Rd. # 7a CC December 4, 2018

Attachments

Chairperson Councilor Lukes read the item and she then recognized Councilor Rose (Petitioner) who spoke in support of the item. Chairperson Lukes requested Assistant Commissioner Robert Fiore to give the administrations recommendation. He recommended to approve installation of a streetlight on pole #38. The Chair moved to accept the recommendation. Motion approved on a voice vote.

Councilor Matthew E.Wally request installation of additional street lighting in Bailey St., between Assabet Lane and Foxmeadow Dr. # 8a CC December 18, 2018

Chairperson Councilor Lukes read the item and asked if anyone present would like to speak to the item, seeing no one, she requested Assistant Commissioner Robert Fiore to give the administrations recommendation. He recommended to install three (3) lights on wood poles 6, 7-82 and 11. The Chair moved to accept the recommendation. Motion approved on a voice vote.

Recommend Approval for three (3) streetlights on wood poles 6, 7,-82 and 11.

Donald Mancini, Manager of 969 Main Realty LLC request street lights be installed on poles 17, 19, 21, 23 and 24 on Brooks St. # 8b CC December 18, 2018

Chairperson Councilor Lukes read the item and she then asked if anyone present would like to speak to the item, seeing no one, she requested Assistant Commissioner Robert Fiore to give the administrations recommendation. He stated existing lights already exist on every other wood pole which is the city’s standard. The Chair moved to Deny the request. Motion approved on voice vote.

Elizabeth Barnes and Marc Moran request the city consider installing aesthetically appropriate street lighting in the Crown Hill Historic District, including the core portion of the district of Congress St., Crown St., Oxford Place and Oxford St. # 8b CC May 7, 2019

Chairperson Councilor Lukes read the item and invited anyone present up to the microphone to speak. The following persons spoke in support of this request:

2) Marc Moran (he presented the committee with a letter from Preservation Worcester)
3) John Carnegie
4) Karen Nugent
5) Debra Northway

Chairperson Councilor Lukes requested Assistant Commissioner Robert Fiore to provide a response; He stated he projected the need for 16 new lights and they would require the bases be changed, infrastructure costs may be needed for repairs, at a total cost of $650,000. Then committee asked various questions to Mr. Fiore.

The Chairperson moved to Hold the item. Motion approved on a voice vote.

The Chair moved to accept a Chairman’s Order to “Request the City Manager recommend avenues to find the installation of aesthetically appropriate street lighting in the Crown Hill Historic District”. Motion approved on a voice vote.

Matthew Nasif request the street light pole in front of 464 Salisbury St. be moved to the property line between 464 Salisbury St. and 474 Salisbury St. # 8h CC September 3, 2019
