PETITIONS

 

8.       Petition of Jack McLemore request City of Worcester to designate the four miles of Rte. 146, from Rte. 122A in Millbury to I-290 in Worcester, on the new Massachusetts Turnpike interchange to be known as the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, Central Massachusetts Chapter Highway.  This is in honor of the veterans from Central Massachusetts who participated in that battle.

Recommend Approval of the Petition and Adoption of the accompanying Order that the four-mile section of Route 146, the Blackstone Parkway, from State Route 122A to Brosnihan Square be named the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge Highway, and, further that the Administration work with the members of the Great and General Court to have this designation enacted.

 

9.       Petition of Mayor Raymond V. Mariano on behalf of Evelyn LaPointe request to erect a WWII memorial monument in honor of Richard Babin at the petitioner’s expense.

Recommend Approval of the Petition and Adoption of the accompanying Order that the Veterans’ Agent be and he is hereby authorized and requested to construct a monument in honor of Richard Babin, a veteran of World War II, subject to receipt of private funding.

 

10.     Petition of Councillor Dennis L. Irish on behalf of Philip Callahan & William Kelleher request that a Veteran’s Memorial be installed at the corner of Haviland and Highland Streets in honor of Sargent Robert S. Matern, U.S.M.C. killed in action June 1, 1967, Republic of Vietnam.  Sargent Matern was awarded the Silver Star posthumously January 29, 1968.

Recommend Approval of the Petition and Adoption of the accompanying Order that the Veterans’ Agent be and he is hereby authorized and requested to construct a monument at the corner of Highland and Haviland Streets in honor of Robert S. Matern, USMC,
